From his earliest days as a designer, Samuel Chan’s emphasis has been on creating furniture that combines contemporary design with exquisite wood craftsmanship. Born in Hong Kong and educated in Britain, he draws on his heritage to produce work that is imbued with a unique synthesis of Eastern aesthetics and Western design ideals. “Creating new designs for wood, new ways of expressing the material, is one of my main motivations,” says Samuel Chan. “We retain the old methods but only with the intention of creating pieces that feel fresh and pleasing but that, in the tradition of the best wood furniture, will last and improve over time.”

Channels (since 1995) is Chan’s exquisite wood furniture brand. The selected pieces this time form a well-conceived set that encompasses console table, bookcases, cabinets, and stools. Made of walnut and oak, they surprise viewers with their sculptural, minimal yet versatile form. Channels is about unthinking the limits of wood.
