Communications in the mist - an evolving and unrelenting exploration

Lau is presenting an evolving collection featuring a phantasmagorical motif - two little figures facing each other, bathed in and obscured by a piece of cloud. The collection stretches all the way back to a poster titled “Typography - Communication of Heart” 25 years ago. This cryptic motif has been lingering in Lau's mind since. Communications have always been challenging and misty. Every now and then, he returns to the motif and perfects it, looking for the best way to express its deeper connotations. The motif later spins off the glass sculpture (1995, Italy) and the furniture piece “Cloud of Communication” (2015, Hong Kong). These pieces will be displayed under an intricate cloud structure built of bamboo sticks by Hong Kong craftsmen. This exclusive showcase juxtaposes Lau's changing approaches to the same motif across time. It also visualises his journey from communication design - his primary interest - to art sculpture, product and furniture, showing the evolution in his means of expression.
